What is it that you have lost because you became a Christian, because you placed faith and trust in Jesus alone for salvation and were born again? What did it cost you to be saved? It did cost the apostle Paul much as we see in verses four, five, ad six above. Not a cost to be saved for that salvation is a free gift from God through Christ, but because Paul was saved it cost him much. No longer a Pharisee, no longer one of power and influence in the Jews religion, no longer righteous in his own eyes, Paul saw those things and more pass. But what Paul gained in the Lord was much greater. (Phil 3:7-10 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;) Paul gained more than he lost in the transaction. I know some who have rejected the gospel, rejected the Lord because they think it will cost them too much. What they never consider is what they will be gaining. What did I lose when I was saved, what has salvation cost me? I can’t remember what was lost because what has been gained far outweighs anything that may have been lost.
