2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

4 And he must needs go through Samaria.

Not one of the disciples walking with Jesus that day would have gone through Samaria to go from Judaea to Galilee, they would have went around Samaria no matter what that may have added to their journey. Everyone on both sides knew they did not get along. (John 4:7-9 7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) 9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.) But Jesus always had and continues to have purpose in all that He does or allows. By the end of the account that woman came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and many others as well. (John 4:39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.) What also stands out to me is that His disciples never questioned Jesus on why they were going through Smaria, why Jesus sent all of them into the city, or why Jesus was talking to the woman. Reading the account one sees they did wonder, but they did not question the Lord. So often today we find ourselves going through dark valleys and great storms of life and we may wonder why, so many things we do not understand. But realize dear Christian God still has purpose in all that He does or allows to touch or come into our life today and as we follow Him and trust Him all will be known by and by.
