2 And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him unto David, the king said unto him, Art thou Ziba? And he said, Thy servant is he.
3 And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.
2 Sam 9:13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king’s table; and was lame on both his feet.

King David was looking for one who remained of the house of King Saul as we see in verse one. When that one was found he was not perfect, he could not walk, he needed help and attention, he was one that would seem to be unable to add anything to the king’s table. Yet in verse 13 we find he was given a place at that table continually. When I read this account I am reminded of salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ and the invitation of John 21:12 which was given by Jesus. (John 21:12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine…) Jesus is not looking for perfect people to come to His table, to partake of the Bread of Life, to be born again. Jesus is looking for those who need help, who have been crippled by sin, for those who will repent and turn to Him for salvation and eternal life. Those ones also have a place at the table Jesus has prepared continually. Have you accepted the invitation extended to you by the Lord Jesus Christ?
