James 1:5-6 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
KJV
For any who may not know, February 2nd is Groundhog Day every year here in America and most especially in Punxsutawney PA where each year thousands and thousands of people gather at Gobbler’s Knob to find out from a groundhog if there will be an early spring or six more weeks of winter. It was 0 degrees at 3:30AM this morning in Punxsutawney when the crowd began to gather and it will grow and grow until around 7:00AM when they pull “Punxy Phil” out of his den, hold him up, and he, the groundhog, will predict the weather. This is not intended to condemn Groundhog Day or the people who have gathered there this morning, but I often wonder why people look to an animal for wisdom instead of looking to the only one who can provide true wisdom for each and every one who will seek Him and ask. No, I will not be asking my Lord and Savior if there will be more winter or an early spring this morning. Instead I will ask for His wisdom and guidance throughout this day. I will ask for things that I need to get through this day. I will ask for His protection throughout this day. I will ask for Him to guide and direct me today. I will also leave the weather to the one who controls it for even the winds and the seas obey the voice of God. Seems more likely to me that true wisdom will come from my God than any place else.
