The second strand in our threefold cord, the first being Jesus Christ and a personal relationship and walk with Him, is the Bible. We need the Word of God and His Word to play an important role in our lives today. David knew the importance of the Word of God in his life and the importance of keeping His Word. (Ps 119:105-106 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.) David knew the truth of the Word of God would give him hope in dark trials. (Ps 119:113-114
I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love. Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.) Peter knew that more sure Word. (2 Peter 1:19-21 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.) We need the Bible today, we need to follow the Bible today and we need to obey the Bible today as Jesus commanded. (John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.) Yet in many Christian homes and lives the Bible has become the forgotten book. What if one decided to give equal time to the Bible today as opposed to other things they spend their time upon? As much time in the Bible as on social media. As much time in the Bible as on the cell phone. What if we carried the Bible in our hearts as much as we carry a phone in our pockets. I know people who do not carry their Bible to church but they do have their cell phone. What should be more important in our lives than the Lord Jesus Christ and then His Word? An important cord, a vital cord in our lives today needs to be the Bible.
