15 And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.
16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the Lord shut him in.
17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.

Here Noah found himself shut off from the world, separated from the world and shut in the ark by God. Is it a bad thing to be shut in by God? Is it a bad thing to be separated from the world? We know for Noah it was a very good thing. But what of us today? Consider some other places that state we are to be shut in. (Isa 26:20 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.) Here is an invitation to come in and shut the doors, to hide in the Lord for a moment.
Another invitation is given to enter into a closet and shut the door to be apart and alone with the Lord in prayer. (Matt 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.) I find it very important to be hid from the world, hid in the Lord Jesus Christ. Too many professing Christians seem to have this reversed and instead of being hid from the world in Christ they seem to be hid from Christ in the world. Christ is willing to shut us up in Him just as He shut Noah in that ark and saved him from the destruction that was coming upon the world. What are you shut up in today? Is it the world or us it Jesus Christ?
