April 4th, 2022 by Pastor SolleyLuke 19:29-38 And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.
And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.
And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.
And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?
And they said, The Lord hath need of him.
And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.
And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.
And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;
Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

Next Sunday is what is known as Palm Sunday, one week before our Easter when we celebrate a risen Savior. One week before that resurrection day, a few days before the cross Jesus entered into Jerusalem and was officially presented as the Messiah of Israel, the King of the Jews. This week I want to look as the Lord allows at several things from that week that we find here in the book of Luke. The first being that Jesus was in complete control of all that would take place. Jesus in verse one sends two of His disciples to get a colt as it says here, a donkey according to Matthew that “Never a man sat”. When they gather the colt they were asked “Why lose ye the colt?” They answered “The Lord hath need of him.” The owner then gave leave for a valuable animal to be taken away from him with no assurance of ever getting it back. That colt, that was not broken because “Never a man sat” then permitted Jesus to ride upon its back. Was Jesus in control of what was taking place that week? I believe it was Jesus that put it in the mind of the owner of that colt to allow it to be taken. After all we are not told that he knew the Lord, he was apparently a stranger to the disciples, yet he let them take a valuable animal. Who gentled the beast so Jesus could ride upon it? Only Jesus sat on it before and there was no bucking from that colt found in the Bible record. Jesus did that. Now the multitude of people. Animals are nervous in large crowds, especially yelling crowds, and this one was yelling praises to the Lord. They were also waving palm branches and throwing clothes in the path of the colt. Still Jesus rode calmly through the streets upon a calm animal. Was Jesus I control of all that would happen in that very turbulent week? Yes. Could it be that Jesus Christ is still in control of this turbulent world and in our lives today? If you believe that answer to be yes as I do today then why not turn all over to Jesus, every part of our lives, every worry, every fear, why not turn all over to Jesus? It is not as easy as it sounds all of the time but that is exactly what the disciples did when they walked into Jerusalem to take a colt from a man that they did not know and they found out that Jesus really was in control.
