What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
KJV
Baptism points to a change, a change in status and a changed life. When one is saved they are changed from one lost in sin to one found in the light of Jesus Christ, there is a change is status. That change brings about a second change, a change in life. No longer are we bound by sin to live in sin, now we are free in Christ to live for Christ. So we are buried with Him by baptism into His death. We don’t die for our own sins, Christ died for them. When we are born again we are identified with Christ, the cross and His resurrection from the grave, we have a living savior. So when one comes out of the water it signifies death to the old life and a new life to live for Jesus Christ. Baptism points to a change.
