And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go.
Dan 4:29-30
At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.
30 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?
KJV
Here we see two great kings, leaders of world powers, both introduced to the Lord, one by Moses and the other by Daniel. (Read Daniel chapter 4 and we see that Daniel did introduce the king to the Lord.) Both refuse to listen to those men of God for the same reason, pride. Who is the Lord that Pharaoh would have to listen and obey? Nebuchadnezzar was a great man who built great things all on his own. Neither one of them needed the Lord, but both found out who God is. Pharaoh found out as the waters of the Res Sea fell down upon him, Nebuchadnezzar found out during a seven year period when he lost his mind. Pride sent one king to hell, the other humbled himself and God allowed him to return to the throne. Pride is never a good thing when it puffs one up to the point they do not need God or need to obey God. We can be proud of our children, proud of certain accomplishments and the like but even that pride must be kept in check. How many people claim that they are not that bad, they don’t deserve hell and thus do not need Jesus? That is pride talking. How many people claim their good works make them worthy of heaven and they don’t need Jesus? That is pride talking. There are many today like those two kings learning the hard way that pride is not a good thing.
