Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.
3 But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear when I call unto him.
4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.

David was a man of sacrifice. He followed the sacrifices of the Law of Moses, he was willing to sacrifice his life when he went out to fight Goliath, David was a man of sacrifice. In verse four above we find a command of God given through this man of sacrifice, to offer the sacrifices of righteousness. What might these be? It is a term found three times in the Bible, all in the Old Testament, two from the pen of David. What might these sacrifices be? They differ from those sacrifices demanded by the Law. The Bible tells us that one was not justified, made righteous by the works of the Law in Gal 2:16. They differ from the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, that was His sacrifice and it is not many but one. What are the sacrifices of righteousness? Those sacrifices begin when one is willing to be set apart for God. (Ps 4:3) They continue when one is willing to trust the Lord with their life. (Ps 4:4) They continue when one is committed to prayer and communion with the Lord. (Ps 4:1) They are sacrifices made when one is willing to live for Jesus Christ. Does that involve sacrifice on our part, did it demand sacrifice on the part of David? More on that tomorrow.
