Ps 51:7-13
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
KJV
Among the Psalms of David few people would name the 51st as their favorite, but this should be a Psalm that every child of God is familiar with. Here David, after the sin recorded with Bathsheba, comes in repentance before the Lord seeking forgiveness and restoration. Yes, that man after the heart of God fell as we all do. We may not fall to the depths of David’s sin, but we do fall. Sin, no matter how great or small interrupts fellowship with God. We do not lose our salvation, but we do lose our communion with Him, our fellowship with God. That is a terrible place to be for the Christian and the reason we see so many living empty lives before God. What to do? We follow the example of David and the path to forgiveness and restoration set before us in 1 John chapter one. David was not too proud to humble himself before God and seek forgiveness after he repented. Remember David was king of the most powerful nation in the world at the time. If David could humble himself before God, and man, why can’t we? Don’t let sin take away your joy, don’t let sin take away your communion and fellowship with God.
