Ps 4 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.
3 But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear when I call unto him.
4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.
6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.

Is there any individual in the Old Testament that had the ear of God more, heard the voice of God more than David? Read the Psalms and you will come to answer that question with a yes. Yet David was no different than any of us. He had times of doubt, times of fear, times when he failed the Lord, times when he made decisions without consulting the Lord, David was a man no different than any of us. That by the way is why we can find such comfort in the Psalms. But David had the ear of God and heard the voice of God as much as any man in the Bible. So what was David’s secret to this close relationship to the Lord? There are several things, one of them found in verse three above. David saw himself as one set apart for God, not only set apart by God, but set apart for God. Because David realized that he did all he could to learn about God, to seek God out. That is a great problem in Christianity today, few see themselves as set apart. That is the reason for the weak church, the watered down gospel, Christians are set in the world and not set apart. How do you see yourself? How much of you is given to the Lord and how much is given to the world? One key to answering that is how much time you spend in the Bible and in prayer. Most people who claim to know Jesus know nothing about Him because they spend as little as time as possible with Him. How much time do you give the Lord daily?
