Mark 15:33-37
33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.
36 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.
37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

The word darkness is found 162 times in the Bible, none more significant than when it is used of Jesus Christ on the cross. This is the darkest hour the world has ever known to be sure. The sinless Son of God took our sin upon Himself, He became sin for us, and when He hung there on that cross in sacrifice and payment for our sin the world was darkened. Sin is a terrible thing, leads to a great darkness. Sin leads to darkness in the world, it leads to darkness in lives, and will lead to an eternal darkness. Sin took Jesus into darkness as well. But three days later that darkness would be turned to a glorious light when the angel rolled the stone away and revealed that Jesus had risen from the grave. What are you filled with today? Are you filled with the darkness of sin, or are you filled with the light of Christ? The decision is yours, don’t let that darkness blind you, don’t let the darkness of sin keep you from Jesus Christ. And those who are filled with the light of Jesus Christ let us let that light shine out so that others can see.
