The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

In these verses we have the title given to Jesus that perhaps speaks the most to me personally, “The Lamb of God”. These are the only two places in the Bible I find that title, yet it speaks volumes about Jesus. That title takes one back to the Old Testament and the deliverance of Israel from bondage in Egypt. There was a death sentence passed upon that nation, they were dying. All the male babies were to be killed, they were enslaved by the Egyptians, they were a nation dying. A quicker way would have been to kill the female babies, but they were still being exterminated, slowly but surely. In order for them to be delivered from that death another was going to have to die. For Israel it would be a lamb, the Passover Lamb. That lamb would have to be killed for them to have life. It held a picture of what another Lamb would do so many years later, give His life so others could be delivered from death. Praise God for the Lamb of God, thank Him today for the giving of His life, for a willing sacrifice so others could be delivered. I want to look for the next few days at the Passover Lamb, at the Lamb of God.
