There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
KJV
We have in verse seven the most well know occurrence of the phrase “Ye must” in the Bible as Jesus tells Nicodemus “Ye must be born again.” That is a phrase that is found eight times in the Bible in seven verses. Lets consider some of them this week. In John three we have the most important of the “Ye must” in the Bible, this one concerning salvation. Before we receive anything else from God we must first receive His Son as our personal savior. It amazes me at times the things men want from God apart from salvation. They want God’s favor, God’s protection, God’s provision, and even God’s wisdom, but they do not want God’s Son. I listen to the news and how often I hear the newscaster say “Our prayers are with the folks in…” Is he saved, does God hear his prayers, what is he praying for? They want God’s favor, but do they know God’s Son? I hear our President say the nation is praying for the people in Florida after that tragedy, but our nation has turned its back on God. America wants the favor of God without the Son of God. None of that is possible for if we want anything from God we must first know God in a personal way through Jesus Christ. “Ye must be born again.” That is the first thing, are you saved today? Have you repented from sin, confessed you are a sinner before God, and asked Jesus Christ to forgive you of your sin and save you? That is possible only because of the shed blood of Jesus. Are you washed in the blood today?
