1 Thess 1:7-10
7 So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.
8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.
9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;
10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
KJV
Separation involves being set apart and that does mean being set apart from the world. If I then turn from the world, if I am set apart, what do I turn to? Most of the time when something is given up it needs to be replaced. I listen to professional athletes interviewed and often they are asked what they will use to fill the void in their life after they no longer can compete and for many if not most of them it is a huge problem. They turn to alcohol, drugs, and what not in order to fill voids in their lives. That is part is what we separate from, so what do we turn to? That answer lies in a person, the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. Those in our text turned from idols, were separated from them, and turned to the living and true God. (verse 9) As we live a sanctified life, a separated life, we need to fill the so called voids in our lives. I say so called because we were never satisfied with the world in the first place. But where do we turn? We then turn to Jesus Christ, we spend time with Him, time in His Word, time in prayer. Sanctification involves service, but one cannot truly serve until they know the Lord in a personal way. Service without knowing Him is an obligation, serving the one we know and love is a privilege. When you walk in sanctification you are found walking close to the one who saved you.
