Phil 4:10-13
10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.
11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
KJV
It is hard to imagine in our present day, in our nation, how much the apostles suffered, how much they gave up for the cause and gospel of Jesus Christ. Those men, Paul included because he did replace Judas, were under constant attack and persecution. They all lost everything they had, all suffered beyond what we can imagine, and all but one suffered very violent deaths. Yet Paul states that he “Rejoiced in the Lord greatly”. How can that be? Paul had his heart and mind settled on the Lord as we have looked at this week. Paul thought on the good things of God, of all that God had done for him in the person of Jesus Christ. Paul was settled on the Lord, not settled in the world. Friend, when we learn to do that we as well will rejoice in the Lord, we will know how to be abased, we like Paul will be able to do all things through Jesus Christ.
