Ps 40:5-8
5 Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
KJV
I want to stay is Psalm 40 this morning and consider why we as believers in Christ should serve Christ. The main reason we should serve Jesus Christ is found in verse five of our text this morning. I know by experience that life is at times hard, that there are heartbreaks in life, that there are disappointments. I also know I am not alone in experiencing those things. But I also know of the goodness of God, of the goodness of the Lord Jesus Christ and how that has been extended to me. Think this morning of how good God has been to you, of how good Jesus has been for and to you. Let me begin today to count my blessings in the Lord. It begins of course with salvation, of having eternal life and forgiveness of sin through the blood of Jesus Christ. I know I do not deserve that. I think of loving parents, a gift from God. I think of a Christian wife, a gift from God. I think of children, a home, a car to drive, food on the table, on and on I can go. Truly God is good and the Christian knows that by experience. Think on your blessings and the goodness of God this morning. Then think of those are reasons enough to seek His will for your life. (Psalm 40:7-8) The answer always comes back a resounding yes for me. Jesus has given me more than enough reasons to seek His will. Can’t you say the same?
