Neh 1:4-6
4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
5 And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
6 Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned.
KJV
Revival not only demands a burden, it also demands self awareness. Nehemiah came before God confessing the sins of Israel but s not all, he also came confessing his own sins and shortcomings. The words “I and my father’s house have sinned” open the doors of revival for Nehemiah. As a Pastor I have had people walk up and say to me “There sure were some people here today who needed to hear that sermon.” The problem was that those were most likely the ones who needed to hear it the most and it went in one ear and right out the other. Friend, we all need revival, except of course for that perfect one before God. Don’t be that perfect one, you are only fooling yourself. God did a great work in Nehemiah, a work of revival, but it began in the heart of Nehemiah and demanded that Nehemiah see his sins and shortcomings. Let us all take a good look at ourselves this morning.
