1 Sam 8:6-8
6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.
7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.
KJV
Samuel had a heart and life given unto the Lord, the Lord was his portion, but that did not assure that all in Samuel’s life was going to be pleasant. Here we find a time when Samuel has to do what he knows is not good for the people. They had demanded a king and not the Lord rule over them and the prophet judge knew that would not be a good thing. Still, God was going to give in this instance the people what they wanted and Samuel would anoint the new king. In his youth Samuel had to tell Eli of the judgment that was coming on him and his family. Samuel had to face many things that he would not have chosen to do, still he did them faithfully in the Lord. Just because one gives him or herself over to the Lord completely and entirely does not mean there will be no trouble or trials in their life. Understand that we still live in this sin cursed world, but when walking with Jesus we never walk alone, even in the unpleasant things of life.
