1 Thess 4:13-18
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
KJV
Many times I have read these verses at funeral services for those who have died in the Lord, for Christians who passed from this present world and stepped into glory. Truly these are words of great comfort. But what does happen when the rapture takes place and we who are alive are caught up to meet the Lord in the air? This will be our topic this week. First of all we will stand in the very presence of our Lord and Savior and meet Him face to face. We often think of those who have gone on before us and seeing them again, and we will. I have grandparents, parents, two children that I never met in this world waiting in heaven and I long to see them again and meet them for the first time. But what of Jesus? Shouldn’t He, even now, be our focus? Jesus will be in heaven, everything for all eternity will revolve around Jesus, He will be our focal point in heaven. Shouldn’t He then be our focal point now as we think and long for heaven? He should. There is nothing wrong with thinking of those who have gone on before, but we need also think of the one who made it possible to have our sins forgiven, the one who opened the door to heaven because He is the door. Our longing ought to be to first meet with Jesus and to thank and praise Him for eternal life and our home in heaven. Think of Jesus first, think of Jesus often when you think of heaven, when you think of the rapture.
