Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.
5 And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.

Another thing the missionary will do is report back to the churches that sent them out. Follow Paul and Barnabas, later Paul and Silas and you will find that they came back and gave a report to the churches concerning the work of the Lord. That is important as it is easier to pray for someone that we know and know something about. We have a missionary coming to our church on Sunday, not to report back, but to give a report on the work of the Lord, to introduce himself and the work that God called him into. If one sends out the missionary and never hears from them again how can they know if God’s work is pressing on? How can they know the missionary is faithful to his call, or even if God ever called them? To report back also gives the people of God something to praise God for, for the work He is doing through the missionary. Not all will receive a call to missions, but all should have a burden for missionaries and that important work.
