September 7th, 2017 by Pastor SolleyJer 20:7-9 O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.
8 For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the Lord was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily.
9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
KJV
When Jeremiah utter these words he was at a very low point in his life. These are the inspired words of God, but they also reflect the heart and needs of the prophet. Jeremiah was wearied and tired in the fight, he had proclaimed the Word of the Lord and what had he received in return? He was mocked and ridiculed, he was imprisoned, he was an outcast among his own people. Jeremiah was weary and ready to give up, he had decided not to speak in the name of the Lord any more. (Verse 9) But something was amiss, something wrong with his fleshly decision. Was God’s Word not true, was God one that would turn away from the prophet, was God no longer worthy of his service? No, none of those things were true, Jeremiah could not stop loving God, not stop trusting God, not stop serving God, Jeremiah must go on and he did. Christian, when we struggle, when we feel all alone, even when we feel God had left us down, go back to His Word, go back to His Word, go back to His Word, let it be a fire in your bones, let it flame up inside you as the prophet did and you will find the same strength to go on as did Jeremiah.
