James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
KJV
What are your prayers worth? There are some Christians who seem to be able to move the hand of God each time they pray while others seem to receive no answer from God at all. What makes the difference? There are some things in our text verse for this morning that give insight to that question. First, a man needs to be righteous. Not right in the eyes of the world, his family, his friends, or even his church, a man needs to be right before God. That begins of course with salvation but carries far beyond a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Look at those in the Bible who were mighty in prayer and you will find they have this in common, a right walk with God. Joseph, Daniel, Moses, David, Elijah, Jeremiah, John, Peter, Paul, they had a right walk with God. Those men were not perfect, far from it, but they walked with God day by day and when they did trip and stumble in their spiritual walk they got right with God. Does it seem at times your prayers go unanswered? Then look within and see if you are walking in the way God wants you tow alk, are you obeying the clear and simple commands of the Word of God. Note the words of Jesus in John 14. (John 14:13-15 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.) Don’t separate verse 15 from the first two, that promise comes with a condition.
