Gen 24:63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.
1 Tim 4:15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
KJV
Above are the first and last uses of the word meditate in the Bible. To meditate is to think upon something, to ponder, to give oneself to it for a time. What was Isaac meditating upon, what does the Bible command us to meditate upon? The Bible tells us, commands us to meditate upon the things of God, upon the Word of God. (1 Tim 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.) Isaac was waiting on the Lord for a bride and surely he was mediating upon the working of God, how and who God was going to provide. We think upon many things each day, meditate upon many things as well, but how much time is given to the Word of God and the things of God? After I post this I will take Bible in hand and read a portion of the Word of God. But will I be given to it, will I think of what I am reading, will I meditate upon it? Most people today read their Bible in a rush if they read it at all, but the wise man will meditate upon that which he reads. Take some time today and think about, meditate upon the things that you read in his Word.
