1 John 3:15-18 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
17 But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
KJV
How many times can we read something before it jumps off the page at us? What is to be the extent of my love to my brothers and sisters in Christ, to those in need? I am to be willing to lay down my life for them. (1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.) That my friends is a command that is a very difficult one to keep. As I count how many people in this world I am willing to give my life for it comes up a very small number. Wife, children, grandchildren, the list ends there. Yet the Bible tells me, God tells me, I am to be willing to lay down my life for my brothers and sisters in Christ. Does God really meant that. I find that the Bible says what it means and means what it says, so yes, God does mean that. How many Christians love like that? It is interesting then that just two verses later we are told to love in deed and in truth. I don’t know if anyone reading this verses will be called to lay down there life for another, but there are ways we can show our love for others, practical ways. Think of the degree of your loves today, tomorrow we will look at some practical wars to show that love.
