John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
KJV
In a world where people are more concerned with self than anyone else, in a world where it seems people are in love with themselves, Jesus gives a very clear command, we are to love one another. Jesus repeats this command in john 15:12 and John 15:17, we are to love one another. We also find this in Romans, 1 Thess, 1 Peter, five times in 1 John and one time in 2 John. It is clear that a Christian is not to be so concerned with self, but with those around him or her. This goes against the thinking of society, but not against the thinking of God. What if Jesus had been concerned with self? He never would have gone to the cross, never would have suffered and died, there would be no eternal salvation offered to man and we would all be bound for hell with no redemption possible. What if the church was more concerned with self in the beginning? There would have been no spreading of the gospel, at the fist sign of persecution the gospel message would have died. What if missionaries were more concerned with self? We are not to be more concerned with self than anyone or anything else as is the trend in society today. One problem, one major problem is that thinking is in the church today and Christians are interested in one thing it seems, themselves. When was the last time you reached out to a brother or sister in need? More likely today is the believer waiting to see what others can do for them instead of trying to be a help to others. Tomorrow we will see just how much God wants us to be concerned with others instead of ourselves.
