Col 1:3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,

The phrase praying always is found two times in the Bible, both above. It tells me a great deal about prayer in the way that phrase is used. The first time we find it is in Eph 6:18 and it is given after the listing of the armor of God which the Christian is to put on for protecting in our spiritual war with the enemy of our soul. The second time it is used in Col 1:3 it is at the beginning of the epistle where Paul is giving thanks for the believers and the local church there. My friend, we need prayer in this spiritual battle, in this daily struggle against the enemy of our soul. We can and must put on the spiritual armor provided for us by the Lord Jesus Christ for protection, but there two offensive weapons we must pick up and put into use, the sword of the spirit, and prayer. Without prayer we will fall in the fight. It is no coincidence that the things Satan will first attack in our lives, the things he will do all he can to move us away from, are Bible reading and prayer. It also is no coincidence that when we are faithful and consistent in those two areas that we see victory in our lives, when we find strength to stand against the wiles of the devil, and we advance the cause of Christ. Paul I believe took joy in praying always for those believers in Col 1 because he knew they were praying always and winning the spiritual fight. Pray Christian, pray.
