John 10:11-14 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

Sorry about no devotional the past two days. We were needed away and had no access to my PC.
Jesus is seen as a shepherd in three ways in the New Testament. As the good shepherd dying for the sheep. Then as the great shepherd. (Heb 13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,) This in His resurrection providing new life for those once dead in sin. Thirdly as the chief shepherd. (1 Peter 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.) This in reward, providing rest for the sheep. As sheep we need to know Jesus in all of these ways. We need one willing to die for us because we are born dead in sin. Then we need one living for us, leading us in our new life in Christ. Finally we look forward to our reward, to that time of eternal rest with our shepherd. Jesus is the shepherd of our soul.
