Ex 3:1-5 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
2 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
4 And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

Our subject for the rest of the week is one that is given little thought or attention today, the holiness of God. The word holy is referenced in the Bible almost 650 times, so it is something that is important to God. A great command to the New Testament believer is to be found holy before God. (1 Peter 1:15-16 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.) Written in the Old testament, but for the Christian today is the command to be holy.
Ex 3:5 is the fist use of the word holy in the Bible and here we find that for man to have a relationship with God, it must be on holy ground. But how can that be possible? Man is born in sin, God is completely without sin, God is holy, so how can this relationship be possible? It is made possible by the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross and man repenting of his sin and trusting in the sinless sacrifice of Jesus Christ for salvation. When one is born again they move to holy ground. Should this move then affect our conduct, should it change our thinking, should it govern our actions? According to the Bible it should, it should affect every fabric of our being. But that is often not the case because holiness is a subject one hears little about today and one cares even less about. Consider the way God is imagined by many today. God is “The man upstairs”, the “Good buddy”, the “Eye in the sky” and so on and so forth. Consider the way the name of God is used in society and entertainment today, blasphemy is common place, so much so that it no longer bothers most Christians. People have little consideration for the holiness of God today, and that includes the Christian. Remember today that as a Christian we are standing on holy ground with God. Will your thoughts and actions stand up to your position today?
