April 24th, 2017 by Pastor Solley2 Kings 20:1-6 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.
2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, saying,
3 I beseech thee, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
4 And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying,
5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord.
6 And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.

Tears are not uncommon in the Bible and they are not uncommon in our lives today. There are many things that bring tears of sorrow to our eyes. In our text today we find king Hezekiah weeping before the Lord and they are bitter tears for Hezekiah wept sore. What brought these tears to the eyes of Hezekiah? It was a sickness and one that was going to take his life. But why was the king crying? Was he afraid to die? Was he unsure of his place in eternity? Did he fear for the provision and safety of those he would leave behind? Those things cause dying people tears all the time, but that was not the cause of Hezekiah’s tears. Hezekiah had much more to do in this life for the Lord, there were things left undone and the king wanted to continue to serve the Lord, to lead the people in the ways of the Lord. How do I know that is true? Because of what he did during the added fifteen years. Now as we make application in our lives I would challenge you not to leave things undone, especially things for the Lord. None of us know the time of our death and it is very unlikely that any of us will hear from God like Hezekiah did that our time is up, but there will be years added. Some reading this may be deciding to start serving the Lord as they should tomorrow, start reading their Bible and praying as they should tomorrow, but none of us know if we will have a tomorrow. What we need to do is start today. It may be that you have more time coming, but it may be that this will be the last week, the last day that you will have to serve Jesus. Hezekiah took advantage of his added years to serve the Lord, we need to take advantage of today.
