Mark 11:22-26 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
KJV
Does this mean as long as I believe God will give it to me that I can ask for anything? No, there are certain things I cannot pray for because I know they are not in the will of God. For example, I cannot pray that I have no troubles or trials in my life, God has already revealed in His Word that in this world we will have trials and troubles. What it does mean is that doubt can hinder my prayers. If I am praying in the will of God, then I should pray with confidence that the things I am asking for will be given. (1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.) Not believing can hinder my prayers. We find another thing in our reading this morning that can hinder prayer, an unforgiving spirit. No man or woman will go through this life without being used unjustly, we all have. We all have because all of us have at one time or another treated others unjustly, it is our nature. How do we react to that? Do we keep it and allow it to build up bitterness and hatred in our hearts? To do so will also hinder our prayers. What is keeping your prayers from being answered? Is it doubt, or is there bitterness in you that needs to be confessed before God and left go?
