14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
KJV
In these verses we find not only Jesus praying but a prayer that Jesus would not pray. Notice in verse 15 that Jesus would not pray that the believer be taken out of this world. Wouldn’t we love to get out of this world, get to the point that we didn’t have to live by the rules down here anymore? Yesterday I visited with a man who is watching as his loved one leaves this world, the same in another house, then in the nursing home for a service last night we visited with lonely people. We all have troubles and trials, wouldn’t it be nice to get out of this world? Yet here we are and to this point Jesus wants us in this world. Why? So even during the trials of life we can be a witness for Him, so we can have a testimony for Him. Notice that while Jesus will not pray we be taken out of this world He does pray that we be kept in it. Kept by the hand of Almighty God, guided and protected by His Spirit, given the joy of the Lord. Christian we are in this world for a reason, to be a light for Him. Let your light shine today even in the midst of trials.
