Rom 8:18-25 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
KJV
One of the reasons we can endure the sufferings of this present time is the glory we look forward to, the glory that is coming with the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 8 speaks of the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, the blessed hope of the Christian. This week we will look at the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, the sureness of His return. There are many who deny or doubt the Second Coming of Christ and they are found in the Bible. (2 Peter 3:3-4 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.) That is the only place in the New Testament the word scoffers is used by the way. There are those as well who set dates for His return, some saying it has already happened. (2 Thess 2:1-3 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;) The Jehovah Witness cult is one of these and many others come and go, some recently. But is Jesus Christ going to return, and when might that return be, does the Bible hold the answers to these questions? Yes it does. One in every twenty five verses in the New Testament speaks to the Second Coming of Christ. If He were not to return then we can’t believe the Bible, so He is coming back. The Bible encourages us here in Romans to endure because of what lies ahead and that all starts with the Second Coming of Christ. Tomorrow we will begin to look at the signs of His return.
