Jer 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
KJV
Jeremiah knew what was in store for him when he answered the call of God when he began to speak the Word of the Lord. There is no fine print with God, nothing was hidden from the prophet, nothing hidden from you or me today. In this world we will face persecution when we stand up for Jesus, when we are counted as one who loves the Lord, Jesus Himself told us that. So what happened with Jeremiah, why the fleshly desire to stop? Just because one knows what is coming does not make it any easier to bear. I know, you know as a Christian that the world is opposed to all that is of God, that Satan battles against all that is of God, that even our flesh is an enemy to the cause of Christ. Does that make things easier? I think not. I helped take care of my parents as cancer took their health, watched as they grew weaker, that did not take away from the separation that death brings. Jeremiah was worn down and needed some time apart and alone with the Lord. Don’t be surprised when you get worn down in the spiritual battle we are in. When that happens do what Jeremiah did, get apart and alone with the Lord, spend more time in prayer, more time in His Word, more time in quiet meditation with the Lord. Then His Word will once again burn with in, once again you will want to let it out.
