2 Chron 34:1-3 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years.
2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.

The age of some of the kings when they began to reign during the divided kingdom of Israel amazes me. Josiah was just eight years old when he became king and certainly he had trusted advisors helping him, still he was king. Even eight years later he was just sixteen when he began to make decisions that would shape the southern kingdom during his reign. Here is verse three we see a defining moment in his life, he began to seek the God of David, he began to seek Jehovah God. Have you reached that point in your life, the point when you begin to seek the Lord? I am talking about more than being saved although that must come first. Our first step in seeking the Lord must be repentance and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal savior. But there is a different type of seeking as well, seeking to make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life, your king if you would as well. Josiah was one who would seek after the Lord and I want to look at some of the things recorded about him in this chapter this week. But as we do let me put this question before you, are you seeking after the Lord? I meet many people who will tell me they are saved, yet they live their life in a manner that suggests they have no desire to seek after the Lord. What is your desire this morning? If you are lost you need to seek Jesus Christ for salvation and that is an easy thing to do. Confess you are a sinner before God and that there is nothing that you can do about that. Repent, turn from that sin and turn to Jesus Christ. Then receive Him and Him alone into your heart, asking for forgiveness of your sin, and then walk in newness of life. Salvation is the first step in seeking the Lord.
