21 And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

Paul is giving here a short history lesson on Israel, but it is more than that, this is the Word of God and that means it is God speaking through the Holy Spirit to Paul giving him the words to say, the very Word of God. I take time to make that clear because that gives great meaning as to how David is described here, a man after the heart of God. Samuel is the prophet, Say the son of Cis, but David is the one after the heart of God. It is one thing for Paul to say that, quite another for God to say it. I wonder how God might describe me is a short history of my life were to be given? Could there be any greater thing said than one was after the heart of God? He was a husband, a father, provided for his family, worked hard and so on and so forth, but what was he after in his life? Was it money, was it pleasure, what was he after? If only God could say one was after His own heart nothing greater could be added. David was not a perfect man, far from it, but he was a man after the heart of God. What are you after today?
