Josh 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
KJV
Take note of the use of the words you and ye in this verse. Choose “You” this day whom “Ye” will serve. You is singular while ye is plural. Why the use of both words? Because the decision to serve and follow the Lord is an individual one but it also one that affects others. If all Israel were to individually choose to follow and serve the Lord then the nation would be following and serving the Lord. But if certain ones refused it would cause the nation to be less than God wanted them to be. An example of this would be found in the battle of Ai which the nation lost because of the sin of one. When we as individuals fail to follow the Lord it harms others as well. Families are not what they could be when dad does not follow the Lord. Homes are not happy when children walk apart from Jesus. Churches are weakened when individual members do not serve the Lord. And nations come under judgment when citizens turn away from God. Sound familiar? Just look at America, our churches and families today. It is important that we serve and follow the Lord.
