Matt 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
KJV
This is commonly known as the great commission, Jesus promising power to preach the gospel and commanding His children to go and tell others the good news of the birth, death, shed blood, burial and resurrection of our Lord to provide salvation to all men. This commission is for all who come to know Jesus Christ as their personal savior. There are then certain one who devote their lives to telling others about Jesus Christ. We have another one of the missionaries we support coming to give an update on the ministry God had given to him this coming Sunday at Cherry Corner and it has brought missions to my mind and witnessing to the lost. Who exactly is a missionary, one makes one a missionary, and are we all missionaries? We are all to be witnesses for the Lord, but that does not make us all missionaries. Let me say this morning that we live in or on a mission field, there are people living and working around us who need Jesus Christ, who need to hear the gospel, who need to be saved. We do then live on a mission field right where we are and we need to tell the lost about Jesus Christ. That makes us a witness for the Lord and as we tell others we fulfill the great commission. But does that make us a missionary? Think about that today, we are to be a witness, we do live on a mission field, but does that make us a missionary?
