Peter 5:1-9 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
KJV
Who is likely to be attacked by the enemy? We find another victim in verse 9 of our reading this morning. Thos who offer little or no resistance. We are commanded to resist the enemy, to be steadfast in that resistance. Yet so many today off up no resistance at all. Think of what we allow into our minds and hearts today through the eye gate along. TV, internet, movies, billboards, everything is aimed at evil and lust it seems and so many take in as much as they can. Even to watch a sporting event on TV today, all the commercials are filled with scantly clad women, alcohol and the like. Most TV shows are about lifestyles that are ungodly and filled with violence. The movies being produced today go a step beyond that. Then consider how people dress today, showing as much skin as possible and we know this is a problem. Do you resist at all? Do you turn off the TV, turn your eyes away from that which they should not see, or do you take it all in? Don’t think these things will not hurt you spiritually, will not make you weak and a target for the enemy. Then we add the things we listen to and it gets much worse. Do you resist the enemy today, or do you just give in? One who will not resist is one who will fall.
