1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,
2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
KJV
This is only the second time this phrase is used in the Bible “Called to be saints”, the other being in Romans chapter 1. I find it interesting that God used this phrase in connection with a church that had more problems, more trials, more troubles than you would wish on anyone. Paul could say goo things about the church at Philippi and others, but very little good about this one. Why? Could it be that they never took their calling serious, took their Christian life serious? They never had victory over the world, over their flesh, over sin, they never reached the heights that God wanted them to reach in their Christian life. We face the same problem today, not taking our Christian life serious. We take job, hobby, and other things serious, why not our Christian walk? If we want to be successful at anything we need to take it seriously. No wonder so many of our churches are so weak and worldly today, few take their Christian life serious. No wonder so many Christian homes end up broken and shattered, few take their Christian life seriously. You are called to be a saint, that is a serious matter.
