2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

This is the other passage where the Christian is called to be a saint. Yesterday it was pointed out that being called to be a saint is a serious thing. I want to note this morning that it is also a vital thing for the church. This letter or epistle is addressed to a church, the church at Corinth. (Verse 2) There is no other church in the Bible with as many problems at the church at Corinth. There are at least 15 major issues with that church, problems between believers, problems with sins of the flesh, divisions in the church, many serious problems. What those problems produced was a weak church, a carnal church, one where the believers remained babes in Christ. What it also produced I am sure was a church with no good testimony in that city. Why would anyone living in Corinth at the time want to be a Christian when they looked at the body of believers there and how they lived? They were just like the world, just like the lost with all the same problems and no solution. What was their problem? They failed to live like a saint. They walked in the flesh and not the Spirit, they pleased self and not God, they lived a life that was like the one Jesus died to save them from. They had sin forgiven but chose to walk in sin and not in Christ, they did not live as a saint. As a result it was a weak and powerless church at Corinth. Sound like anything we see today? If we desire a powerful church they the believer is going to have to live like a saint.
