May 23rd, 2016 by Pastor Solley2 Tim 2:1-5 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

With Memorial Day coming up in one week I thought we would look at a few things concerning soldiers over the next few days. The Bible for good reason likens the Christian to a soldier and the Christian life to a war or battle within a war. We indeed are in a spiritual war, recognize it or not we are in a spiritual war, a battle everyday and if not ready for the fight we will fall. The first thing I want to consider about a soldier is his training. The first thing one does upon joining a branch of the military is go off to boot camp, off to a place of concentrated training. All one does in boot camp is live, eat, sleep, even breath military, the training is 24 house a day for however long it lasts, 12, 13 weeks of constant, around the clock training. We also need to be trained spiritually for the battle we are in. We are not shipped off to boot camp, but we do need trained. This training comes through bible reading, meditation upon the Word of God, prayer, going to church to receive the sound preaching of the Word of God, and fellowship among those of like precious faith. Without the proper training a soldier is not ready for the fight, without the proper spiritual training the Christian is not ready for the spiritual battle. Why do so many professing Christians fall by the wayside? They are not in training.
