18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
John 17:1-4 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

Another step in finishing the work given to Him by the Father was for Jesus Christ to fulfill the Law. Every sacrifice of the Old Testament had to be perfect, flawless, they brought no broken animal to be sacrificed. Every lamb was perfect, flawless, meeting the demands of Jehovah. So it is with Jesus Christ. Jesus went through a 33 year probationary period during which He answered every claim of the Law of Moses, not most, not some, all. Jesus never broke even the least of the commandments of the Law, not the Ten Commandments, but every precept of the Law He fulfilled, Jesus is the perfect sacrifice, the only acceptable sacrifice ever set before God. Even those sacrifices acceptable to God throughout the Old Testament could only cover sin, they could never take it away. That is why they needed to be repeated time after time. But Jesus was and is the perfect Lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice. What a blessing it is to know this morning that the blood of Jesus washes sins away, it does not cover, the blood of Jesus washes sin away. Why? Because He and He alone could and did fulfill God’s Law.
