And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,

Perhaps Jesus greatest hour of need recorded in the Bible when His disciples could have been a help and comfort to Him. The weight of the sin of all humanity began to settle on the Lord Jesus Christ, the weight of Peter’s sin, of John’s sin, of yours and mine began to felt by our Lord, and it was a heavy weight. The cross was coming, just hours away now, and Jesus would suffer there alone, none could help Him there. Now in the quiet of the garden he sought out the Father in prayer, and He asked those closest to Him in this world to join Him in prayer. What did Jesus then find them doing? Sleeping. He would ask them, “Could ye not watch with me one hour?” Couldn’t they have at least prayed with Jesus for an hour, was that too much to ask? Yet I think of how His children, his disciples continue to neglect Him today. If you are saved you are His child and are to be His disciple. Yet how much can the Lord depend upon us to stand with Him, to watch with him, to pray with him and unto Him? Before we are too hard on the disciples look back on yesterday and see if you gave Him just one hour of your day. Will you give Him that hour today or are you too busy with self and the world?
