Matt 27:1-3 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

The end of what some call Passion Week is the cross and the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the grave. This will be our focus next week, the sacrificial death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross for the sins of man. In verse one of our text this morning we see the religious leaders of Israel taking counsel against Jesus, they would do all they could to get rid of Jesus. It reminds me of how religion tries to get rid of Jesus today, at least get rid of all Jesus Christ and the Word of God stands for. More Bible perversions than can be named it seems, contemporary church services, rock music, worship teams, no preaching and on and on one could go. People, religion, the world, they have never wanted Jesus Christ. Still Christ loved enough to go to that cross for the very ones who wanted and do want rid of Him. Consider today the great love of Jesus Christ for the unlovable that took Him to the cross.
