Matt 21:1-11 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,
Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.
And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.
All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,
And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.
And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

Here we see the multitudes giving lip service to Jesus, crying “Hosanna to the Son of David”. I say lip service because this same multitude will be calling for Jesus to be crucified a few days later. It does remind me of the way Easter is celebrated today around the world and in most churches. People who seldom go to church any other time of the year will be there on Easter Sunday. They will buy a new Easter outfit, dress, suit, they will look their best, and they will go to church. I am glad as a pastor that they come out because it is an opportunity to give the gospel to those who seldom give ear to the salvation message. But it is a multitude of people giving lip service to Jesus on Easter Sunday. They care little about the Lord if anything. They come not to worship, but to be seen. Their hearts are far from God and for most they will remain that way. I pray dear reader that you don’t fall in with the multitudes here for they were lost and never came to Christ for salvation. I pray that in this season you do acknowledge Him to be the Son of David, but much more than that the Son of God who died for you and one you have repented before and asked to forgive you of your sin and save you. Don’t give Jesus lip service as the multitude did, give Him you heart.
