Eph 5:18-20 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
KJV
Perhaps the greatest challenge of the Christian life is to be emptied of self, of the world, so that we can be filled by God, filled with the Holy Spirit of God. It is such a challenge because we are programmed by the world to seek out things that satisfy self, to seek out things that make us feel good, to seek out things that are apart from God and as those things are set before us they begin to take up places in our heart, places that God wants to fill. Somehow we think we will be missing something if we turn away from the world and our wants and desires. But what will we be missing? This things of this world, no matter what they are, they are temporary at best. Why then would I seek to be filled with something that will not last? Why not seek something permanent? What fills your life today? Is it sports, money, cars, friends, hobbies? Something is filling you and if that is preventing you from being filled with God it needs to be emptied out.
