John 14:16-18 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
KJV
This is a chapter of comfort and assurance as Jesus speaks to troubled hearts. (John 14:1) One of the great promises in this chapter is that of the Holy Spirit coming into this world and into the believer in Christ. One thing Jesus has promised us is that we as born again children of God will never be alone. God’s Spirit, the Holy Spirit is given to those who trust in Jesus Christ as savior. He is one the world cannot receive, and while we do not see Him in bodily form we do know Him because He does dwell within us. One of the things modern charismatics have robbed us of as Christians in the realization of the Holy Spirit within and what He can and does do for us as Christians. Because of a false emphasis on supernatural gifts that have passed on the part of false prophets and teachers the true believer in Christ does not often preach on the Holy Spirit and that does rob us of a great blessings. Yet we find that Jesus has promised and given the Holy Spirit to His children, and that for a purpose. Not only for comfort and assurance, but for strength, guidance, protection and many other things as well. Think of the comfort you will have today knowing that God’s Spirit is with you, God’s Spirit is in you.
