Jer 6:16 Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
KJV
Today we say goodbye to the old paths is you would, goodbye to another year and welcome a New Year tomorrow. But should those old paths be forgotten and forsaken? Not if they are ones that served us well. The Lord told Israel to walk in the old paths, to seek and ask for them for they were the good way, the way for rest for the soul. Some paths are eternal and should never be turned away from. The path of Jesus Christ, the path of His Word, the path of prayer, of depending upon Christ, of serving Christ, these are paths that are never to be turned away from. Did they serve you well in 2015? They will serve you well in 2016 as well. If you failed to walk in the old paths in this current year please understand that Jesus is standing before you today with arms wide open inviting you to walk in the old paths in 2016. But we see in our text verse that Israel refused to do this, they determined to walk their own way, and we know how that has worked out for them. Jer 6:16
